Straightforward Wisconsin is a group of concerned citizens, legislators and policy makers interested in moving Wisconsin and America in a better direction.
We believe in an exceptional nation, with exceptional citizens. We don’t think our aim is set too high, we all believe in that “shining city upon a hill,” and work towards rebuilding our nation as the constitutional republic it was intended to be. Much has been said, good and bad about this political system, but as imperfect as it may be, it is still the best man has to offer this earth. As early as 1831 it was written that America is “exceptional” and we believe there is great cause for this. We believe it is our innate exceptionalism that will guide us away from the certain peril we face as a nation and move our state and country in a straightforward direction.
It has become clear that the circle of liberty that surrounds us all has been shrinking for decades, and we feel it time to correct that injury. Programs such as the “Affordable Care Act” and “Common Core” seek to shrink that circle even further. We have come to understand that fighting this progressive movement on a national level, in presidential bids and U.S. congressional races avails us little in the way of progress and satisfaction. What is needed is the ground up approach.
We need to start where the progressive movement has had so much success. This entails a whole lot of work at the ground level. This separates the “men from the boys” if you will. We all know that little prestige comes from working tirelessly at school board functions, taking time away from our families to hold low paying city council appointments, and spending countless hours bringing our message to those who may well wish to slam the door in our faces. It is not romantic and it is not exciting, but it is where we must start if there is to be hope for a brighter future.
